Barbeque Bonanza Returns

Smells of barbecued food and sounds of children’s laughter will be at River View Park on Saturday for the eighth annual Buellton Barbecue Bonanza.

The barbecue, which is put together by Buellton officials and staff members, provides a way for people to meet neighbors and catch up with old friends. The festivities will be from noon to 2 p.m., with several bands playing and demonstrations provided for entertainment.

The city will provide free tri-tip sandwiches and hot dogs as well as beverages, but people are encouraged to bring a side dish to the potluck.

Delta Airlines to Discontinue Service to Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA – Delta Airlines has announced that it will be discontinuing service to Santa Barbara.

The airline says that this move is due to poor performance of the route between Santa Barbara and Delta's hub in Salt Lake City.

Santa Ynez man convicted in school scheme (SY Valley News)

LOS ANGELES - A man who falsely promised bartending and “mystery shopper” jobs to people around the country has been convicted of 10 federal fraud charges.

Steven P. Todorovic, 40, of Santa Ynez, was found guilty Thursday afternoon of seven counts of wire fraud and three counts of mail fraud, charges that carry a statutory maximum penalty of 200 years in federal prison, according to the office of the United States Attorney, Central District of California.

Volunteers Cleanup Dog Park

Responding to public pleas for help cleaning up the overgrown Buellton dog park, roughly 25 employees from the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott pulled weeds and hauled them away recently.

The volunteers showed up July 14, days after a member of PAWS of the Santa Ynez Valley appealed for help during a recent Buellton City Council meeting.

Chamber Mixer Celebrates Fiesta

The regular Chamber of Commerce mixer is moving poolside at the Marriott Hotel Wednesday night and will be celebrating the annual return of Old Spanish Days, otherwise known as Fiesta, to Santa Barbara.

The Chamber mixer is from 5pm to 7pm at the Marriott Hotel in Buellton.

Anyone interested in networking with other business owners and professionals in the greater Buellton area is encouraged to attend.

Visioning Goes To City Council

A list of recommendations for improving Buellton, from changing the city’s architectural guidelines to building a sports center, museum or cultural arts center, will be presented to the City Council July 22 as the result of a months-long “visioning” process.

The council will be asked to rank the suggestions, compiled through public workshops and online surveys of local residents, and set priorities that might help make some of them a reality.

City Ponders Memorial to Fallen Heroes

Buellton city officials are determining how to best honor a fallen Marine and others killed in the line of duty after hearing a tearful mom describe a large art piece she hopes to place for her son’s memory with the council’s blessing.

During a Buellton City Council meeting earlier this month, Cathy Allen described the large art piece she wants to have created in honor of her son, Aaron Allen, a Marine corporal and Buellton resident who was killed in action in Iraq.

Bowling Alley Project Delayed

Buellton council members postponed approving a $1.5 million loan for a proposed bowling alley, saying Ben and Calisse Courtney need to pony up an equity contribution before any public funds could be provided.

Sitting as the Buellton Redevelopment Agency board Thursday night, the City Council discussed the request from the Courtneys for a loan of $1.5 million to build a 16-lane bowling alley, tentatively called “Valley Bowl.”
